Last updated: October 13, 2026

Pacific Justice Institute (“PJI,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit legal defense organization. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit pacificjustice.org and pji.org (together, the “Site”), communicate with us, request legal help, sign up for updates, or make a donation, and how we use and protect that information. Our Donor Privacy Policy provides additional commitments specific to donors.

Information we collect

Information you give us. When you fill out a form on the Site, subscribe to updates, register for an event, request legal assistance, reserve a speaker, or make a donation, you may provide your name, email address, mailing address, phone or mobile number, organization, and the details of your request or gift. Donation payments are processed by our payment processors, and PJI does not store full payment card numbers.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we collect standard technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you view, and the site that referred you. We collect this through cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics (see “Cookies and analytics” below).

How we use information

  • To respond to your requests, including requests for legal assistance, speaker reservations, and media inquiries.
  • To process donations, send receipts and acknowledgments, and maintain accurate supporter records.
  • To send you updates about PJI’s cases, events, and work by email or, if you have separately opted in, by text message.
  • To operate, secure, and improve the Site.
  • To comply with legal obligations and protect the rights and safety of PJI, our clients, and the public.

Requests for legal help are routed to our legal team and treated as confidential. Submitting a request does not create an attorney-client relationship.

How we share information

PJI does not sell, rent, or lease your personal information to anyone. We share information only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service providers. We work with trusted vendors that help us operate the Site, maintain our supporter database, process donations, send email, deliver text messages, and analyze website traffic. These providers may access personal information only to perform services for PJI and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
  • Legal requirements. We may disclose information when required by law, subpoena, or court order, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of PJI, our clients, or others.
  • With your direction. We share information when you ask us to.

All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information won’t be shared with any third parties.

Text messaging (SMS)

If you opt in to Pacific Justice Institute Text Alerts, we collect your mobile number and a record of your consent so we can send you the messages you requested. Your mobile phone number, opt-in data, and consent will not be shared with, sold to, rented to, or transferred to any third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile information is used only to deliver the messages you signed up for, and may be handled only by the service providers that deliver text messages on our behalf. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. Full program details are in our SMS Terms and Conditions.

Email communications

Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You may also email info@pji.org to change your communication preferences. We may still send transactional messages, such as donation receipts or replies to your requests.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics, including Google Analytics Advertising Features such as remarketing, Google Display Network impression reporting, and demographics and interest reporting, to understand how visitors use the Site and to reach people who have visited the Site with PJI messages on other websites. Google and other vendors use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookie) and third-party cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on past visits to the Site and to report how ad impressions relate to visits. You can opt out of Google Analytics for display advertising and customize Google Display Network ads through Google Ads Settings, and you can block Google Analytics entirely with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Most browsers also let you refuse or delete cookies in their settings.

Third-party links

The Site links to other websites, including donation pages, social media, and news outlets. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and this policy does not apply to them.

Children’s privacy

The Site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

You may request to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to stop contacting you, by emailing info@pji.org or calling (916) 857-6900. California residents may have additional rights under California law and may exercise them through the same contact methods.
