Sacramento, CA – Pacific Justice Institute filed an amicus brief this week with the U.S. Supreme Court in support of California’s Proposition 8. The Supreme Court will hear arguments March 26 and 27 on the constitutionality of Prop. 8 and the Federal Defense of Marriage Act. These two decisions are expected to mark a major turning point in not only the debate over same-sex “marriage,” but also the ability of citizens to determine controversial issues through the initiative and legislative processes.

Pacific Justice Institute represents Daniel Robinson, Ph.D., as amicus in this case. Dr. Robinson has a distinguished career in the mental health field, including posts as Chairman of the Psychology Department at Georgetown University, and as a visiting faculty member at Oxford University, Princeton University, Columbia University and other elite institutions. He has authored more than 18 books, 90 articles and 20 chapters in additional books. This is the first time he has participated in litigation over same-sex “marriage”.

The brief utilizes Dr. Robinson’s vast scholarly experience to dispel the flawed premises on which the rulings against Prop. 8 were based.

Brad Dacus, President of Pacific Justice Institute, commented, “We are excited to represent Dr. Robinson and present his impressive scholarly reasoning to the U.S. Supreme Court in defense of Proposition 8. PJI has been involved in defending traditional marriage in California for more than a dozen years, and we will continue to do so as long as it takes. These cases are crucial not only for the future of the family, but also for the future of democracy and the people’s prerogative to determine momentous social issues for themselves.”
